Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy. ” -- Ernest Benn "The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.” -- Larry Hardiman

It's easy to make jokes about politicians, but as Henry Cate VII said, “ The problem with political jokes is they get elected .”

Washington has lost touch with reality -- and we have to change it.

Our elected representatives are more concerned with looking good to their constituents than with solving real problems – and we have to change that. We need elected representatives who spend our money meeting our needs.

Our elected representatives answer to their party leaders – and we have to change that. We need elected representatives who will vote in the interests of the people -- not in the interests of their parties.

Congressmen who trade their votes for deals that favor their states and special interests are a disgrace to the Constitution. We need elected representatives with the integrity and courage to vote in the interests of all the people.

Too many Democrats are not fiscally responsible; too many Republicans are not socially responsible – and representatives of both parties are more concerned with being re-elected than with doing the job we send them to Washington to do.

The voters are angry – and with good reason. But this is not a time for extremism. This is a time for moderation and rational debate.

We can reduce spending without reducing services. We can reduce the bureaucracy and still maintain needed programs. But none of this will happen until we change how Congress does business by electing representatives with integrity and courage, and the intelligence to understand the real issues.

I'm not interested in a career in Washington . I'm only going to serve for one term, and I'm going to work 24/7/365 on the issues that count. No fundraising for the next campaign. Now bowing to Party leadership. No junkets with special interests. Just studying the issues and finding workable, cost-effective solutions – and reading legislation before I vote on it .

Making Government Responsible begins with us – the voters. Be a responsible voter. Be informed. Learn the issues. Get involved. Make your voice heard.
